Jonathan IveApple's golden boy designer Jonathan Ive won't be leaving the company for his native Britain, according to a recent profile in the U.
K.'s Daily MailIve has been with Apple for nearly two decades. He's behind the signature Apple designs as the iMac, iPod, iPhone, and most recently, the iPad 2.
"Ive has helped turn Apple Inc from an also-ran popular chiefly with designers into the second biggest company in the world, with a higher turnover than Google or Microsoft. He will receive [$24 million] in Apple shares alone next year," the Daily Mail said.
The designer has reportedly been married to Apple for the past three years through a $30 million "golden handcuffs" deal that just expired. Ive reportedly expressed a desire to spend more time in the U.K. and proposed a plan that would allow him to "commute" back and forth between Cupertino and his manor in Somerset. Apple's board allegedly shot down that request, leaving Ive at an impasse, but that is not the case, the Daily Mail said.
Ive has no plans to depart from Apple, the paper reported. The story also debunked rumors that Ive is being groomed to take over for Apple chief Steve Jobs, who is currently on medical leave.
